need a bit of help i,ve got a eby 256 cui mercury motor and i carn,t find the engine serial # as i,m about to re- register my 56 fairlane victoria. ive got a aussie 272 block at home and the engine # is on the left hand side front just below the head but on the mercury block i,ve scapped the block to bear metal but there,s no #there.

I don't think Y Blocks on this side of the pond have serial #'s, at least I've never seen one.

that would explain then why i carn.t find a # then.thank,s very much. i,ll have to get a# of a old block at home..

Ray , Make up a # . ?? . I did it up hear in QLD .Just add 4 or 5 numbers behind the prefix near the dizzy . All I did was have it engraved on a piece of alloy ,glue it to the block ,add a little paint & a smear of grease .Most of the people who check the engine numbers at DOT wouldn't know if it was V8 or a 4 cylinder motor ??? I did the same with my "A" Model chassis . Regards Lon
