SAWEEEET!!!!!!
It worked like a charm! AutoZone ordered a pair for me for $32 apiece, put them on yesterday, and it now kicks out the tires to the lip of the fender...no problems...
Spending the day with a wire brush scrubbing the underside, and POR-15'ing the frame and underbody. New gas tank going in...looking good.
Great advice...will be back for more. Thanks!

Thanks!
Glad you found my site...I've been delinquent on the updates there, and seem to have migrated everything to my facebook account...I've gotten back on track and seem to be working from back to front now...the rear end is shaping up nicely! Interior pretty much stripped and ready for carpet, right now a silvery mass of Dynamat Extreme front to rear and top to bottom. Doc's a good, solid, Memphis-built tank. Fordomatic rebuilt last summer, although I should have traded up to the AOD conversion...someday. Look me up (Marc Poole) on Facebook and you'll see a gallery for Doc for my more recent updates.
Couldn't find that specific model # on ebay, although JC Whitney seems to be a supplier for Gabriel. I'll see if I can track down a pair tomorrow. Can't wait to get them now!
Thanks again for the help-

Hello Marc! I ran across your website for your 56 about 18 mos ago and then nothing as far as updates were added.Have you updated it recently? Those Gabriels will fit great as is.No extenders etc. They actually extend further than the axle will drop with no shock in place.I got mine off Ebay for $45.00/pr Canadian plus $20.00 to mail.Funny thing is Gabriels are not sold in Canada as far as I know. This seller in BC had a load of them listed for various applications.Try a search on Ebay.

Hi guys,
This is my very first post here, so go easy on me...I have been wrestling with the same predicament for the last few weeks as I have contemplated moving uptown to a set of wide whitewall radials...I currently have radial 225/70-15 thin whitewalls and I like the size, but want the wide white look. I have had wrestling matches with the rear tires, and have been searching for solutions...I tried the bias-ply 6.70-15 spare on to see if it would fit, and had to force it in the well.
Is it really as simple as switching to the Gabriels? Do I need the extenders too, or will the shocks do the trick by themselves? Where have you guys gotten the Gabriel Ultra G63398? What's the price for the pair? I can only find links for a vendor off of Amazon for around $25 a pop.
What size wheel/tire combos are you running? Can I get away with a 7" rim? I have heard about the need to switch to a later model wheel for the radials...any particular year/model work best?
Thank you all for the wealth of info up here...I'll be back for more! Finally getting back on track with the resto of my '56 Town Sedan...fuddy duddy, but I love it!

Hello Chuck! I just changed mine last week too. Those Gabriel shocks sure do the trick. Before I put mine on I sprayed them black just like stock.Much more heavy duty construction than the regular gas shocks.

My '57 has the same clearance issues with the rear tires,I installed Gabriel air shocks with 3" shock extenders and run 35/40 psi in them. But put it on jack stands,100 lbs of air in shocks and out they roll, lifts the top of the fender well 3" above top edge of rim! KID

Oldcarmark. I just put a set of the Ultra shocks on the rear of my 3" lowered 56. Now I can change tires without messing with the shocks or springs! They are perfect and a much heavier duty shock. Thanks for the tip. Chuck in NH
Y's guys rule! Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

If you have a 55-56 the shocks for rear are Gabriel Ultra G63398.These are actually listed for Ford pickup.A good matching set for front are Gabriel 82026.These numbers came from Chuck Gardiner who spent some time trying a few shocks to get a set that fit and worked well.If you want to see his 56 go to www.chuckgardiner.com/1956ford.htm Regards,Mark
