Hi, you dont have to seperate the actual steering shaft from the s/box but remove the complete steering box from the car. 1st, remove the column by removing the stering wheel, dash bolts, floor seals, gear linkage, etc then prise the bottom of column up with screwdriver or just twist and pull upwards to slide column off steering box lower tube, then remove the s/box. Its not as complicated as you may think, good luck. Aussie bill.

hey all im about to remove the body from the frame of my 57 and i have a question about removing the main steering shaft (column) ok from the way it looks i just have to remove the bolts from around the shaft where it goes into the box ... and pull right? the reason i ask is i saw in one of my resto parts catalogs the main shaft listed as (shaft with worm gear) which has me a little concerned about messing up the mesh between the gears if i just pull the shaft out id like to be able to steer the frame around by the steering wheel after its seperate from the frame ...... has any one here done this if so am i gonna regret pulling the shaft out of the box if the shaft and worm gear are one in the same PLEASE HELP id like to get the frame sepperate by this weekend so i can start cleaning it up
