Birdman:

Your local parts store should be able to supply you with gaskets.  On the intake side, the truck specific gaskets will have a restriction on the exhaust crossover, the passenger car ones do not.  If your exhaust ports are stock size, then stock replacement gaskets should fit.

Try asking for a 62 truck with a 292 engine. Thats often the last one they list. The rest are "aged out". Chuck in NH

Oct 15 I purchased an exhaust gasket set from Auto Zone, part # MS 9492B.  They had it in stock.  NAPA number is the same as they also carry Fel Pro gaskets now.  Around here NAPA can usually get parts overnight, which is quicker than getting them mailed to you from one of us.  The old NAPA Victor numbers for the intake gaskets are MS15115 for the truck type and MS 18690 for the car type.  The Victor number for the exhaust was MS15083Y.  Numbers may still be the same, or maybe someone can cross these numbers to their brand.  Most of the kids at the parts store, if you give them a part number, want to know the application.  If you have the number, the application is not an issue.  If you can't get any local satisfaction, let me know and I'll order them locally and ship them to you.  Oh, the T-Bird and early Ford vendors list them in their catalogs.

My local O’Reilly keeps the gaskets in stock but I have to make them pull out the catalogues with real pages.  The computer just simply doesn’t go back that far.  Granted I could just give them the part number but it’s much more fun to make the young guys dust off the catalogues and fumble their way through them.  The older guys aren’t so much fun as they just go back and get the parts off of the shelves without even looking them up.

 

In your case and as Chuck brings up, just have them look up parts for a 1962-1964 Ford pickup with a V8 or 292 engine.  That will get you most parts you need for a Y.

About 18 years ago when I was working on my '53 Studebaker, I went to my local NAPA and asked my friend Ron to see the power steering hose book so I could look for a hose in the picture section.  He said, "why don't we look up the application?"  I said, "OK, it's a '53 Studebaker with a Ford 289 engine and a Nova steering box."  He said, "Let's just look at the pictures."  Found a Buick hose that worked, is still on the car.

That sounds like the "parts experts" here. I went last week to the Zone and asked for front brake pads for an '01 E430 Benz. The kid looked for a while and then asked "Whats a Benz?" Thats what I am up against here.
