Just go done changing my old 12v generator from a galaxie in my 54 Merc. I bought the one wire Alternator kit from Larry Becker from Ohio, which I got from an old post here. He was a pleasure to deal with, as the old post said, & with his simple instructions & price of $130 ready to bolt on is hard to beat. I want to thank you for this Info, which I would have never found without this site !

I have one question though.  I installed the motor Quite a few years ago & it came back to me as I am doing this conversion.  The old engine was the original "256". I installed a rebuilt 272 in its place & I remember I had to change the fan bushing as the fan was too close to the radiator, and made some bushings to extend the generator out to line up with the pulleys of the new motor with my old brackets. So my question is: Is the water pump longer along with the crank pulley on the 272??    Thanks,  Mike
