Is the carb mount on a Blue Thunder Intake strong enough to pull a complete 292 with ex manifolds? I need to pull to resurface flywheel and replace clutch and pressure plate with a new diaphram type. I have pulled small block Fords this way but wonder about the aluminum manifold on this job.

I talked to Mummert about that and he said it is strong enough,so i pulled my 312 out that way and didnt have any problem  Carl

Seems to me that the engine would not need to be pulled if all you are going to do is resurface the flywheel and change the clutch. On my 1955 T-bird I pull the transmission back still leaving it rest in the bell housing and I can remove the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel without even removing the bell housing.

Sorry Vic, I have tried that to no avail. I have a small block toploader 4-speed with the competetion plus shifter.I removed the shifter handle, then had to remove the whole shifter and rods, dropped the driveline, secured the engine, and the tranny won't slip far enough back to get in to the clutch. All my skinned up fingers are proof of the fact!   Thanks for your input tho.

I have been there and done this many times in the 44 years that I have owned this bird. I did it just that this last spring when I installed a centerforce set up. I have the big block toploader and Hurst competition plus shifter. I removed the shifter and all the linkage and crossmember and shoved the transmission as far back as possible and secured it in that position. The transmission pilot is still in the bellhousing but I am still able to remove the pressure plate bolts by rotating the flywheel for each bolt location and then removing both the pressure plate and clutch plate through the bellhousing hole, and then the flywheel. I also am able to use a clutch pilot during the re-instalation. Things are tight but not so bad that I would pull the motor to change the clutch pressure plate and flywheel. I hope this is of some help, email me if there you have any further questions about anything to do with a 55 t-bird because I have done it all.
