There is an open-source project called Mega-Squirt that includes fuel injection with ignition timing. Perhaps that's what you're thinking of. Use a Mega-Squirt control box to control the ignition.

Further to what Steve said. I remember reading or seeing about aunit that controls the curve electronically. MSD maybe? I think you lock the Dist, mechanical and Vacuum, and use a laptop to curve it. i really don't remember where I saw this.

MSD sells a "programable timing computer" that just might be up to the task (as a stand alone red box attachment) - and it would probably work with the Duraspark II or Pertronix trigger. Look at part number 8981(?) You would have to lock up the mechanical advance with some sort of fixed link from the lower to the upper rotor shaft (in place of the weights and springs).

Because of the way the Ford dizzy works, it would be possible to still retain the Duraspark II vacuum advance mechanism - or lock it out too. The mechanical advance works by moving the upper rotor shaft / reluctor relative to the stator - and the vacuum advance works by moving the stator relative to the reluctor (by turning the "point plate"). The dual advance vacuum pot may make it possible to reference boost pressure and drive the advance lower by applying pressure to the proper port.

Y-Guy Frank:      I realize the duraspark and pertronics will "cure"

                 the points deal(I'm using pertronics now) but having

                 a better(?) way or easier method to change the "curve"

                 and  advance without messing with the weights and slots

                 is what I was thinking about. The 3 distributors they

                 looked at in the CAR CRAFT article had those adjustments

                 adjusted with a screwdriver!!!! Just a thought.....

Bill, You can use the electronic triggr mechanism from a DuraSpark or Pertonix in a '57 up distributor. Many of us do that.

Y-Guys Just reading the distributor article,in the new Car Craft,

Would it be possible to swap the "innards'" of one of these electronic

units into a "Y" dist body OR somehow "mate" the two units together?

The adjustability would be nice instead of messing with the

weights & springs. Just throwing something out their, for Jerry, Frank,

Steve, Ted & others to think about during these cold winter nights...
