Alan ,  It would cost a lot more to rebuild than find a used replacement,  and i dont know where i would find parts to rebuild,,   maybe  Casco or Tee-bird products ,,,   but finding someone to rebuild , is almiost impossible here ,  and i  never have tried , and dont want to , attempt that project ...Sam

I tend to agree with Alan. The used one may have problems also, it's 50+ years old! What kind of howl? What about the axle bearings or pinion bearings etc. Do you belong to the CVA? Maybe they can make a recomendation on a rebuild in your area.

SAM

THERE SEVERAL DIFFERENT AXLE SPLINES USED ON THE "55". 17 IS THE MOST COMMON BUT I HAVE RAN INTO 19 AND 28 SPLINES. THEY ALL SEEM INTERCHANGEABLE IF YOU KEEP THE PUMKIN AND AXLES TOGETHER. I SHOULD HAVE A GOOD SET FOR $125.

Sam:

Before you go to a lot of expense, try moving the input flange of the rear up and down.  It may be as simple as a loose pinion nut.
