I've often wondered how the y block does with an aftermarket tbi like the one HOLLEY offers.

Anyone use this?

Has anyone ever tried supercharger or turbo blowing through a tbi?

Seems like that could be a healthy alternative to a blow through carb & the issues it presents.

Ideas? Thoughts?

Lotta debate on this, nobody's tried it that I'm aware of EXCEPT Jim Weatherly in Ca. (Weatherly's Classique Cars). Jim's not on this chat site so he won't answer here. You could call him and see what he'll tell you. I know he runs one of the 900's and the original T'Bird blower on his Thunderbird. Said he's very happy with it, especially the throttle response.

I too would like to hear any comments on this. I have a complete 2 bll. unit from a 86 Ford truck that was on a 300-6. The guy said it worked great. I need to go through it  before trying  to use it because its sat for so long. And its an early one thats non-computerized so it should be a pretty easy setup.

They all have computers. The early ones are analog, later digital. The analog ECU's are notoriously poor. Even Holley couldn't make them work right. Also, if you use the 2BBl unit, you will probably want to think about increasing the injector sizes to accomodate the fuel requirements with a blower. The Fuel pressure reguator will need to be indexed to the inlet pressure as well.

The Projection unit will not support more than 275hp, according to Holley. This may be something you should call Holley about.

My 88 firebird is TB injected and it is a very similar design to the Holley TB. If I recall correctly, the Holley TB is a plug and play replacement for my car. I know the stock TB's can be modified to support 400, maybe 500hp. So call Holley and find out what limits it to 275.



I would go with the Commander 950 because it seems much more tunable and makes use of a map sensor and has the ability to control ignition timing - both of which will be very useful when running boost. Though, the Commander is about $700.00 more.



Another rather cool alternative, I think, is the Retrotek efi. The throttle body looks like a carb. I think, up to 500hp it does not require a fuel return line to give it away as a throttle body and it is set up to handle up to 15psi of boost. Another neat thing is that it is self tuning. I'm keeping my eye out for real people who are using this. Self tuning seems too good to be true. The retrotek is about $300 more than the commander.

Is Megasquirt aftermark-EFI?

I dont know, but it worked fine with Chevy throttlebody injection on Y and is cheap as soap.

It needs some wiring and biggest thing is the return line to fuel tank.

It's not bolt-on-kit, but it's not too hard for the guy, who can use the computer and got lot of extra time

Megasquirt is another excellent aftermarket choice. It started as a DIY type of thing. The megasquirt system is almost unlimited as to what can be done because one can build the system from the ground up. A very good system can be built at a good price. I think people now sell assembled ecu's and maybe complete systems. It requires a lot of reading and I really hate reading.
