Hello guy's I'm currently planning out a hi-performance y-block, but a Y racer and I were talking, he wants to put 312 crank in his 292.

He'll have to cut the mains on the crank obviously, but he'll have to use the longer 312 ECZ rods right? Now I hear this talk about the strong C1TE rods being the same length(but aren't those from a 292?) if thats the case then they must use a piston which has the pin located further up?

Now if he decides to have the crank offset ground(even more stroke), he'll have to have a custom rod or piston made correct? Is mummert using a longer rod/custom piston combo(rather than one or the other)for a good rod ratio? Thanks for any help/clarification you can provide! -4speed

The 312 rods are shorter, not longer than the 292 rods.  C1TE rods are the same length as ECZ (312) rods, are supposed to be stronger.  The 292 trucks that used C1TE rods had pistons with higher crowns than passenger 292s.  John Mummert has used both aftermarket rods and special pistons in different combinations for his stroker engines.  Maybe you should contact him about one of his stroker kits.  No guesswork by a local machinist who may not be familiar with the stroking of a Y.

Kevin,

Talk to John, he can also do a stroker kit with Eagle rods. You have a number of options in this. Depends on how much of your money you want to send to Calyfoornya.

From the above post, Mr4speed is a friend of mine. This is my first post on the new system and I needed him to get me set up.

Now to the question at hand, Andrew (4speed) and I were talking about ECZ rods. I have a EDB block and after viewing the crank flange it looks to be an EC 292. Also the main caps are the EBU not the ECZ. So I assume this is a 292 block and crank. BUT the rods in this engine ARE ECZ rods. The pistons viewed appear to be at deck height and 312 pistons will not fit the bore.

The engine came from a boat and its the first block I've seen that was painted inside. The block is cracked and I have not disassembled it yet. It has the double roller timing set.

All that I've read it should not have ecz rods inside if it is a 292 RIGHT? (unless its using c1te pistons right?

I know I've discussed this with many of you at columbus but when I arrive there its after working all night and I sometimes have a hard time comprehending all the info that has been given to me. I would like to remove the truck steel crank and do the 312 install. I have a 312 crank and I obviously have ecz rods from this other engine.

I'm glad to finally be on Yblocks and look foward to talk here untill I see you all again in Columbus.

Take care, Kevin
