Two problems - first, I tried to post a picture on the tri power thread - it came back to me saying something to the effect that I had exceed my available space - what is this????

Second, how do you post a picture as part of a response - I see other guys do it but cannot figure how.

Any suggestions. Thanks.

Picture posting within the site is quicker and has less problems if pictures are resized so that they are no more than 500 X 500 before posting them to the site.  Automatic picture resizing on this site is limited so it’s best to do it on your own end to speed things up during the posting process.  Most pictures taken directly from a digital camera will also exceed this sites capability to resize them for you.  If pictures are resized on your own end so they are 300 wide (or less) they will download even quicker while also being able to insert them in pairs or two per row (or triplets if at 200 wide) but be sure to hit a hard return after each second picture so a new row can be started.  Otherwise, the pictures just keep going to the right and running off of the screen.  Not using a hard return after inserting the pictures within the thread also makes the text proceed off the right side of the screen thus forcing the reader to scroll the screen to the right in order to read the text.  If wanting the pictures to be in a single row going down, then just put a hard return (enter key) after each picture.

If you’re using another site for hosting the pictures (ie.  Photobucket), then be sure those pictures are sized so they are no than 600 wide at the host site or the pictures will be too large and fall outside the boundaries for normal viewing on this site besides taking an inordinate amount of time to download when pulling up the thread.  If putting text after the pictures, then be sure to use a hard return after picture links to prevent the text itself from scrolling off the right side of the screen.  Likewise, do a hard return after any text before inserting image links; otherwise the pictures will start immediately to the right of the text and potentially go off the right side of the screen depending upon the length of the text.  For those of us on dial up and using conventional monitors, the use of properly placed hard returns makes viewing much quicker and easier.  The upside for using another site for hosting the pictures is that slightly larger pictures can be viewed at the cost of a longer download time when bringing up the post or thread.  The downside is if the pictures are renamed, moved, or deleted from the host site, then they are also no longer viewable on this site.

Here are a couple of past threads with additional instructions on picture posting.  Other posts regarding picture insertion can be found by using the search function.

Feel free to practice picture posting within this particular post.  If necessary, I can re-print the text from one of the linked posts above into this post that goes into more detail on the step by step specifics of picture posting.

Nothing works. I got the photo from Photo bucket, copied the IMG thing then did a post reply thing. Clicked on the mountain, the box that came up (said Enter the full url to the image to insert) would not let me enter anything.??????????

Please - I'm not dense when it come to directions, but nothing works.

Still - why does it say something to the effect I've used up my space when trying to insert a picture.

How about some good directions? The two threads mentioned do not work for me.

How about some good directions? The two threads mentioned do not work for me.

Picture posting instructions when not using an outside picture hosting site (ie. Photobucket):

1. While in the editing mode, select the icon with the mountain and sun in it.

2. Select “Browse” in the popup window

3. Go to the directory where you keep your pictures.

4. Select your picture.  Downsized works best.  Too large may be too big period.

5. Select “Open”

6. Select “Add Image”.   Do not use the link bar in this instance.

7. Wait….  This could take a couple of minutes as your picture (if not inordinately large) is being downsized and uploaded to the site from your computer.

8. Then popup window goes away and the picture starts to display within the editing window.

9. When the picture is fully displayed, hit the enter key (hard return) and add more text if desired under the picture.

10. Select “Post Reply” and the updated thread should then display with your picture in it.

Ted - thanks for the directions, but

#2 does not work

If I click on the mountain/sun icon, what comes up is a rectangle. Inside it says "Enter the full URL to the Image to insert". No "Browse" shows up to click to click on. So after #1, I'm out and nothing will work?????? I have used the browse command in a number if sites I look at, including ebay and that always works for me. I just don't understand why this does not come up when I click on the mountain/sun icon.

I am using Mozilla Firefox if that makes any difference.

I am going to try this on aol to see if it makes any difference

Nope - aol does not work either In fact, the rectangle does not even come up on aol.

Paul.  Your settings on the site are the same as the other members which points to the problem being back at your own computer and possibly your browser settings.  On a slightly different note, do you perform any routine maintenance such as keeping the recycle bin empty, disk or drive cleanup, cookie cleanup, and performing a Defrag?  Not doing any or all of these will have your computer slowed down to the point that there’s not enough RAM remaining which can potentially keep extras like ‘Browse’ buttons from coming up in a speedy manner.

But assuming all is well from a memory standpoint and you have no Grandkids around that can get the browser settings to function as desired, then using an outside picture hosting site such as Photobucket is another option.  Here’s some instructions for this.

1. In Photobucket, select the IMG CODE under the desired picture and copy into your memory buffer (Cntrl + C).  The IMG CODE should be the last one in a list of four under the picture you’d like to use.

2. Be sure the picture is downsized before storing the link into the buffer.

3. Open up the YBF post editor to the post for which you are going to add the link.  (Add Reply, Add Topic, Edit)

4. After adding any desired text, hit a hard return (enter key).

5. Paste the desired link into the edit screen (Cntrl + V).  Only the link will show at this point and not the picture.  Make sure the IMG brackets are fully intact after pasting in the link.

6. Add a space using the space bar behind the link.

7. Put a hard return (enter key) behind the space.

8. Add text if desired.

9. Select the ‘Post Reply’ key.

10. Updated post should then display with the picture also displaying.

Paul the browse button shows up next to the window where you are to enter the URL address. I had many issues when I first started like you're having. Then one day it started working. If you dont have the browse button then I am lost.
