I went through the same process with my'56 Ford. I bought a used power steering from a guy at a swap meet. Cleaned it up and installed it. It was pretty straight forward. I replaced all the hoses. Ended up having the control valve rebuilt and then the pump. A shop manual provides good assistance. It's my understanding that power steering could be installed by the dealer after the fact, when the customer determined the money savings on the manual steering wasn't such a good idea after all!

Ron;

Who makes the kit and what kind of power steering set-up is it? I installed a power R&P set-up in my 56 Customline that was supposed to be a "bolt-in" kit which it definately WAS NOT! It was a real bear.  Just curious for my next build.

A friend just called me and said he bought a 1955 Ford Crown Victoria. It has manual steering and he wants power steering. He found a place in Wisconsin that sells a complete bolt on kit with all reconditioned parts for his 1955 Ford for $1,250.00. He wants me to help him install it as I have a 4-post lift.  The vendor claims it is a simple bolt on addition from a 1955 Ford.

Is this just a simple bolt on application? Is there any welding involved? How about the pulleys (water pump and crankshaft? I don't want to say yes and get into a big mess that is going to cause me a big headache and time.

All input would be greatly appreciated~~~~~~~~Thanks.........Ron
