Now, I seem to recall this challenge coming up before on the old Forum. I've let the mechanic know and he has decided to put the job off at least temporarily. I'm printing all the posts and will pass it on.. Thanks everybody!

I used a 56 4 barrel automatic bellcrank on my 55 Ford Club Sedan, running a "B" intake, and I had to take off some material on the bottom of the bellcrank, but it works perfectly - I have "0" issues. As stated, a 57 may work if you change your fordomatic kickdown rod adjuster (that L shaped bracket on the top of the threaded end) to a clevis pin style like the 57's had. Finding these bellcranks can be somewhat tedious. Usually people want an arm and a leg, but it saves the hassle of fabricating something up if you don't quite have the skills or patience. Just letting you know the differences, that way you can have one more option than just the 55 or 56 style.

FYI - the original 55 4 barrel bellcranks are usually sold for quite a bit of dough - it is not unusual to see them go for over $100. But I have found 56 bellcranks for $25 or less.

I am assuming the car was originally a 2bbl car. The 2 bbl cars did not have the same linkage as the 4bbl models. The linkage went to the right side of the carb, not to the left (drivers.) It was attached to the back of the intake. MY 54 was like this.

What you have to do is get the linkage for a 4bbl automatic car in order to hook up the linkage or get some aftermarket stuff or a later gas pedal and build your own. This would include getting some aftermarket linkage for the kickdown. There is no bolt on aftermarket items I am aware of.

The best bet is getting the 55/56 4bbl linkage. The 57 may work (very similar) but it is a little different.

I have a 553 and a 573 intake and both of mine have mounts for the linkage. The mounts accept the stock linkage and kickdown.

2Dr57: thanks for the reference. I took a look at the photos & relayed the info to the mechanic. However, while the drivers side bolting boss' on the Edelbrock would work on a 57 linkage, he reminds me that on a N. American 56 car, the accelerator linkage runs in behind the manifold to the passenger side & there is no provision on that manifold to attach anything, except on the drivers side. He says the linkage appears original, ( I don't have the car in front of me) Interestingly, it appears that the Fenton & Edmunds intakes also have two bolting areas on the other side that might work but it's a ?. Anyone else have a solution?

http://m571.com/yblock/intake.htm

I think these are named wrong (Look at FM355 and FM357) and should be 553 and 573 in their title but both have the throttle mounts in the pictures.

???

A mechanic friend is installing an Edelbrock 553 on a customers 56 Ford with Fordomatic. Much to his surprise, there is apparently no provision on the intake to attache the accelerator & kick down linkage. I was surprised when he told me. Was there a stick shift only version? Or is there something he's missing?. Any info appreciated.
