You know we've seen this one before and I think we all agreed that with a little work on our own part we could all build the same thing for a lot less $.

I totally agree BUT, I still think it is cool that ONE can now find a Hot Rod Y block on ebay and elsewhere instead of the past days gone by, When no one would even talk to you about them. Now we can say "a boring, tired old scrub" instead of the former "obsolete old yblock"

I'm glad they're back!

I see a lot more people talking about them on the hamb for instance, kinda funny.

Tim: I'm sure you could build it cheaper, but most people don't have a machine shop or all the tools to do it at a lower cost. Plus how much does time on a Dyno normally cost? The engine is pricey, but I suspect if having to pay someone else to do most of it, wouldn't save a huge amount. Yes/no?

Actually, Tim came up with a figure, as if he were building it for you to buy, and it was considerably less.  It definitely saves enough to put the motor on a dyno.  I'd want to know more about the engine before forking out $10K.

Aren't the only additional things required clearancing the block for the rods and depending on the rods used, clearancing the rods for the cam and possibly narrowing the big ends of the rod.  The clearancing can be done at home.  From there the machine work is the same as any other engine.  There is a lot of work you can do on an engine at home to save money without sacrificing quality.

I would agree that if you have the money to shell out it is nice to have this option. But I also think that anyone here could build one like this with a little effort for less money, maybe not a lot less but say $7000?  Don't get me wrong, as Alan said it IS good to see the Y getting some attention.  Wink

Well with time constraints, & family commitments these days I'd be inclined to buy one if it were closer to 8k.

Could there be a made to order stroker called "Tim's Crate Engines"?

First find a 292, pretty easy. Then get a good 312 crank, not so easy as.

Dyno is 500 a day. I think this is perfect for people like my brother -n -law, who likes this stuff but has a checkbook instead of a toolbox.

Lucky him, I guess. I prefer to do as much myself as I can afford it. But like was said, I don't have a machine shop and can't balance one. So, if it gets one more out here, I'm all for it. It took me a couple of years to piece mine together (just took my time and scrounged up stuff as I could afford it)

This way you call and tell them where to deliver it. Instant yblock. "You TOO can be just like those cool guys on y-blocksforever.com!" Tongue

I love Y blocks, we all do, but if I'm gonna spend 10 grand on a motor it ain't gonna be on a Y bock ... That would buy a hell of a motor.
