Eddie - Turning the adjustment screw in -clockwise - (on the allen wrench adjustable can you are talking about) adds travel to the vacuum advance. It relaxes the spring load.

The reverse - turning the wrench counterclockwise - tightens the spring and resists travel.

On another thread - I saw a reference to a vacuum can with different spring characteristics, that was purchased from NAPA. That might also do you some good if the wrench adjustment of the can you've got, doesn't do the trick.

Eddie, IMHO I used to have an MSD AL before I accidentally burned it up!. Anyway I liked it and felt like it improved my cars performance with "seat of the pant" tests. Idles seemed smoother and nicer acceleration. It all makes sense when you read what they do.

But That particular unit may be a little overkill as of now, you might want to check out the MSD Street Fire version. This one will save you some dough and does what YOU probably want without the race style hi-rev, Hi HP features.

But I also want to add if you keep your engine tuned properly with a pertronix, for the most part you'll be good to go. The 180.00 bucks for an msd could go to something else. Just some thoughts about it.

But I'll probably get one anyway!
