I believe I have a combintation that is going to work without a vacum leak. I have a EBY Block (256 cu 1954 Mercury), ECG-D Heads (272), and ECZ-9425-B intake (1957 four barrel). I have an MSD 8383 Yblock Distributer and an Edelbrock 500 Thurnder Series Carb. I have also added a set of ram horns from John Mummert and a set of polished aluminum finned valve covers. It all seems to fit up well and the gaskets for the intake line up perfect with both the heads and the intake (appearing not to have a vacume problem becasue of port mis-alignment).
My hope is to find a 292 and rebuild it while I am driving the 256. When the 256 gives it up, I will have all the parts (ram horns, distributer, carb, intake, and valve covers) to swap over to the rebuilt 292.
Does anyone see any potential problems I should be looking at with this combination until I get my 292 ready to go? Thanks for all your help.
