Hi everyone, I'm happy to have found this forum. Followed a link in from McTim64's YouTube videos of the 341 Y-block on a stand & 1960 F600 truck. Exciting stuff!

As is the case with lots of you, Y-blocks and I go way back. My dad had a gorgeous 1956 Mercury Montclair 2-door hdtp when I was younger. That was probably the prettiest car he ever owned in my opinion--even prettier than his '64 Galaxie 500 convert he had later (!).

I grew up on a farm and we had a 1959 F600 stake truck with a 292 & 4 speed tranny/2-speed axle. My brother and I beat the tar out of that thing but it kept coming back for more.

My grandad had a '57 F700 that he used for hauling farm equipment (he owned a John Deere tractor & implement dealership). The truck had a long flatbed that could be tilted via hydraulics, along with a winch that could pull equipment up onto the flatbed. I think that truck had a 272 under the hood but I could be wrong. I do remember the front crossover between the exhaust manifolds however.

We also had a '62 Galaxie 500 sedan for a number of years. It had a 292 and the 3-speed Cruise-o-matic. I think most of the 292s probably had the 2-speed Fordomatic, but I'm not sure about that.

One of my coworkers has a nice-looking '56 Ford 2-door sedan powered by a 312 V8. He doesn't bring it to work very often but every time he does, I make sure to be out in the parking lot so I can hear the thing run.

As you can see by my nickname, I also like the old Mopar "poly" V8s, which had some similarities to the Ford Y-blocks. Please don't run me out of town for mentioning Mopars here!

Cheers.

Welcome to the site. I'll check out your profile to see what kind of y-block you're running. If you have technical questions, be sure to do a search. There have been many thorough discussions of rocker shaft oiling, camshaft selection, and other common issues with y-block engines.

There are a lot of great guys on here with a lot of knowledge.

Best regards,

Unfortunately, I'm not running any kind of Y-block right now...Sad I'd really love to find a '56 Merc like the one my dad had back in the day. But those doggone things have gotten mighty spendy, according to the ads & auction results I've seen lately.

Thanks. I already have! Vehicles & engines, two of my favorite things.
