Just thought I would pass this along,this was listed on ebay under "rat rod" category an original 312 "B" intake and numbers matching Holley,bidding is only at $55 as of now and ends around 6PM this evening here is the item# to put in search: 190291998686 from the pics they look very clean.

The dist are available from Autozone for one example.Ask for a dist from 64 F100 pickup with 292.Last year used.You MUST change distributor if you go to a later carb.The original will only work with 55-56 carb.(Loadomatic).I did mine and used an accel electronic kit.I am also using the Holley 390 but with a phenolic spacer and "B" manifold.Works MUCH better than the oriinal setup.

And the holes will probably be better with the adapter. I have a B manifold and a Holley 390 and the manifold holes are a lot bigger than the carb holes. I put a piece of pipe inside mine to make them a little smaller. As said about the distributor, well, it will just work a lot better with a late model distributor and they are thick as fleas on ebay (except when you need one). Mine's a 272 and has, as I said, the 390 and a '59 distributor with a Mallory electronic unit and MSD 8mm wires and it is sweet!

Adding to what Steve suggests - you will probably need a spacer with either manifold. The adapter kills two birds with one solution; it allows you to use the intake you have and it performs the spacer function, too.
I hear good things about the Edelbrock/Carter AFB 1403. As has been mentioned, you can get a rejet kit and tune it to your engine.

Long Island Mike - Instead of getting hung-up on getting just the "right" manifold - why not use the nice "9425-A" model you've got, and put on an adapter to fit the later style of carbs? The Y-block manifods aren't so hard to change out - and so long as you use the throttle mounting bracket holes on the "A", the later type "9425-B" won't be any trouble to fit on there later. Mounting holes are a match and so on. Speedway Motors (and others) sell the adapters - the Speedway part number is 135-1935 - they were $14.98 the last time I gathered up a catalog. If you find a 9425-B later on and still want to make the change - go for it -your carb and throttle linkage will swap right over.

Mike,I don't know if you are after performance or just a good running 4bbl stock motor.If you just need a good 4bbl manifold that accepts all the newer carbs you can use ECZ-9424-B(not A),I am sure someone on here can sell you one if you put a "wanted" in the classifieds.Don't feel bad about the one you bought.Someone who wants the correct manifold for 55-56 I am sure would buy it.Put it back on Ebay and see what happens.I took that one off mine after spending $400.00 to have the original carb rebuilt and being unhappy with the results.I put the later "B" manifold on and a 390 cfm Holley along with the later dist which must be changed when you swap manifolds.The "B" manifold was available on the 57-up Y-block along with the original Holley 4150 carb that is still around today although improved as the years went on.if you want any info or suggestions post a question on here.You will get all kinds of help.

ok ok, i get it (waves the white flag) I will run the 2bbl till i find a better manifold. Does edelbrock make one for a 272 yblock that is still available, and that takes a newer carb?

Rochester carbs from mid '50s gm cars will also fit that manifold, but availability and parts are probably an issue.

If you use the WCFB you will have to find the correct air cleaner to fit the WCFB as the base opening is smaller than a Holley teapot. You will also need the distributor vacuum line as the WCFB used a long brass nut at the carburetor end. The regular type brass that is used on the teapots is to close to the WCFB carburetor to use your fingers or wrench to tighten.
WCFB is good carb just many pieces and secondary diaphragms very hard to find.
