I bought some gaskets to reassemble some engines that need finishing. Because I'll be working on the same types of engines in the future, I am going to use the gaskets I bought as templates to make more gaskets.



I found a supplier of sheet gasket materials; http://www.allstategasket.com/index.asp



and I'll be ordering some of the materials from them. I've also picked up some gasket materials from local sources. Some of the gasket material that comes off the shelf is rolled. The thicker cork material, in particular, isn't going to be workable until I can get it to lay flat. Oil pan gaskets are fairly long and I can't be fighting the material while I'm trying to cut it.



I'm wondering what to other people do about this.



Also, some of the gaskets that I need to make are nearly 1/2" thick cork. I was going to cut layers of thinner cork and glue them up until I get to 1/2". Has anybody tried this?



I'll check out some of the local craft stores to see if they sell sheet cork and cork chunks. Any other places I should try?
