Vick: As noted it's doubtful that a 57 or 58 steering column assembly will transfer to a 56 due to the chassis changes. You will just have to checkout all the dimensions etc. Also, even if it would fit, only the 58 is really a better internal design & a hangup there is that it uses a completely different Horn setup... Brushwolf: It's not clear to me what your trying to do there, but a 54 might be a closer fit, except the steering shaft is probably to long, due the the 56s safety recessed steering wheel. The 57 & 58 column tubes are similar, but slightly different in length. In any case make sure the replacement box is in good shape, as after 50 years it's often not the case.

Ford built almost a totally different car from 56 to 57. Y block engines and the transmissions are about the only thing that weren't changed and even the transmission went from a course to fine spline.

Does anyone know if a 57 stick column will work with a 56? changing from a Ford-O to a stick in a 56.
