This is where people tell me I'm nuts.  But what the heck.  My 58 is not original.  You've read about my 272 being a mix of good 312 and 292 parts but my cam is shot.  Next winter I have to get my engine rebuilt.  Today, I was talking with a friend on my fire dept. who asked me if I was interested in a 429 that was rebuilt about 18 years ago, bored 60 over, new 4 bbl carb. new Ford intake, headers, chrome valve covers and manually turned over a couple of times a year, and filled with 12 quarts of oil through the intake manifold.  It was an early 70's  Ford engine that was all rebuilt, new cam, crank honed, new hardened valves etc.  The old buy (probably about my age) wants it gone.  Asking $1500. Payable upon inspection on taking the heads off and getting it started on the stand.  I would have to get a flywheel, plate etc. to fit my three on the tree.BigGrin

The questions I have, are:  would the 429 big block fit in a Fairlane?  and for all the money I'm am resigned to spending on rebuilding my 272,  why not go for the 429?  Please feel free to straighten me out if needed.<img src="http://www.y-blocksforever.com/forums/Skins/Classic/Images/EmotIcons/BigGrin.gif" width=20 border=0>
