Found a trans we may use behind the 292 in our T, the tag reads:

PBD-7003-A2      82-12107

What is it? What do I need to know about it?? thanks-

Is it a 3 speed or is it an overdrive? Is the output 16 or 28 splines? Is the input shaft 10 or 23 splines? The 7003 number is the number all Ford housings carry.

Are you sure of the first 3 letters?  I don't find any reference to them in any of my books.  With the air cooled converter, it has to be pre-'57.  It appears to be a Fordomatic.

looks like a '54 or '55 air cooled Fordomatic truck transmission with heat exchanger.

Yep, those are the correct numbers and letters, whats with the heat exchanger thing?

Another question, is it okay to mount a trans to an engine stand by the bellhousing so I can rotate it around or is that too much weight hanging unsupported by the tail shaft?? I know I wont be able to to do much work on it that way but it sure would be easier to clean up...thanks

It should work. It's significantly lighter than an assembled engine.

I believe the cooler is a Ford accessory cooler offered in the early '50s for towing or truck use.  You won't need it for your T.

I fasten transmissions to the engine stand all the time.  Works great, beats wrestling them around on a workbench.
