On the drivers side of the carb there is a rod (pump operating rod) with two holes in it, mine has the stud or screw in the bottom hole...what happens if I move it to the top hole??? Also how important is it to have the gasket at the top of the carb where the air cleaner (oilbath) sets..it seems like they never fit right so I've been running with out...THANK YOU for all the help and great information thats always on this site. By the way its a '56 victioria if that makes any difference...292 or 312 not sure.

That upper hole is not threaded, it is a vent hole. There used to be a clip on that rod that was supposed to be slid down over the hole in the winter, raised in the summer. There probably is nothing to worry about not using a gasket for the air filter, unless the bottom of the air filter is badly distorted.
