This is just a poll just to get an idea of who is running an AOD transmission behind their Y and if so, what brand of adapter is being used as well as any flywheel and starter nuances that were involved.

I'm running a 700r4 behind my 312. I used a Wilcap adapter. It came with a new flywheel, adapter plate and high torque starter. The only little hicup I had was I had to take 1/16" off the crankshaft spacer to give the flywheel and starter a little more engagement. I may not of had to but it made me feel better. Pat at Wilcap was great to work with over the phone. All said and done it is a clean set up.

The AOD supplier that advertises in YBM is the Bristol Services Co. Costa Mesa CA. 949-722-1122, o/o Gary Croan. Avail. 9 A.M -10 P.M. Pacific time. This is just info, not an endorsement.

I am thinking of using Bristol Services adapter for AOD some day, I really like the sound of inertia starter and I have couple of them and learned to rebuild them, at least one which is now in Hollow Machine. Just hoping that Bristol Service would have email address... And then I am making my own adaptation for C4 with Ford-o-Matic bellhousing. Only spacer between conveter and flexplate is not made yet. This has been on to do list several years.

I am in the process of installing an aod from a '89 Crown Vic in my '55 F-100.

I am using the  Bendstens adapter.  It is installed on the 292 and engine and Transmission are in the frame.  Biggest challenge was replacing the rear engine mounts which were  a part of the original bellhousing. I utilized the original front mount, fabricated a rear transmission  mount, and utilized the side mounts (used for car applications) and fabricated some side mounts to control engine torque.

Howdy,

I'm using the same adapter and starter for my 292 in my 55 F-600, although it's not an AOD but an E4OD.....It does take the same adapter though

It's not cheap but it is a VERY well made adapter.

My Bendsen's adapter had few problems.

Flywheel's teeth was not tapered and starter's outer bearing rusted out after winter.

Starter's max 120 rpm is quite low too.

Well, the "flywheel" is just a standard FORD OEM flexplate. (My torque converter is for a 300cu-in 6cyl truck engine)

I haven't tried spinning my engine with the starter yet......it's an after market geared starter for some import engine I think. Does it not turn fast enough to start a "Y" reliably?

A well tuned "Y" with good compression and ignition will usually start on the first turn....

My Y is not well tuned...yet.
