The oil pump kit came with a solid rubber seal for the tube where it goes into the pump. the seal in the overhaul gasket set is rubber with what appears to be aluminum inserts. The original one was similar to this. question is which one is better? common sense says the second one. Thanks again.

I don't know which one may be better, but I recently helped a friend take off and replace his oil pan and we used the new one with the aluminum and had no problems with it.

Both are substantial enough because the pickup tube is under negative pressure. Just make sure you aren't sucking air.

Both styles of oil pump seals are equal in overall performance. The rubber seal with the aluminum inserts is just a bit more robust in that the seal itself isn’t as easily deformed by overtightening the nut. Regardless of the style used, be sure to coat the seal liberally with lubricant or white grease to assist it in sealing when tightening it up.
