Substantionally less on both counts, depending on engine type and usage. However, the lower cost per gallon and the far less engine wear can make LPG pretty attractive in many applications. We had a neighbor that bought a new 56 Victoria with a 312 that he converted to LP.He drove that car up into the 90's.When he finally parked it the engine had never been opened up and had almost 400,000 miles on it.Many of the farm tractors in our area were LP powered back in the 40's and 50's.

Here in British Columbia, LPG is mostly used by fleets, however the practice used to be to break engines in on gasoline & then convert. That may not be the current situation. Mileage & power is off by 10-15%. I don't have a price per Litre at hand but for Barbecue fuel, the price has nearly doubled in the last 2-3 years. We had 3 light trucks at work on propane & all were trouble prone, particularly in winter. And one unit would not pass emissions tests. It required "special" tuning to pass at least twice.. Taxi companies are going to imports & hybrids, the popularity of propane is likely fading here. Many light trucks are now diesels. Gas is currently over $1.00/ liter or over $3.78/ U.S. Gal. or $4.54/ Gal.! (Imperial)

Many fork lifts are propane powered in this area of the country.  Probably because they have a less annoying odor than gasoline trucks when used inside a closed building.  Of course, many companies use electric trucks, but they require charging frequently.

Our forklift, that runs on LPG, has trouble in winter too. the system freezes from expansion just like an A/C system. Tongue

Our lift trucks had water heated mixers, so no problem in winter.  They ran mostly inside, but sometimes were taken outside in winter.

We are paying (in my town) $2.55 now and rising for the summer, they like to stick it to us when vacation time comes Wink they tell us in CA that they are reformulating the fuel for less emissions in the summer heat.

Reformulated my azz, basically all they do is blend with less lighter ends (pentenes, a by product) in the gasoline so it doesn't evaporate in the heat as fast. Which equates to blending heavier components (more expensive) to make a gallon of gas.

Of course I way over simplified the process but I'm sure you get my drift. I worked in the Alkylation Section for over twenty five years in the largest Refinery on the west coast, Chevron El Segundo.Alien

What you just said sounds like a reformulation of sorts to me, what term would you use? Morehevieracation.  Tongue

What I said wasn't a dig on you, Tim. I meant as the Oil Companies make a big deal out of "reformulating" gas for summer months and all we do is put more heat in our Debutanizer to fire more pentenes overhead so it doesn't go out the bottom with the gasoline. Thats how we control the vapor pressure of the gasoline for summer and winter months. You can use a play on words all you want. Yes I guess you could call that "a reformulation of sorts to me". But the Oil Companies are charging you for it.

But as long as you asked I would call Reformulating gasoline adding something to the the basic gasoline "forumla" such as an oxygenate (methyl tertiary butyl ether or MTBE comes to mind, mandated by our great state to help air pollution but ended up polluting the ground water. As a fellow Californian, I'm sure you remember that) that changes the basic gasoline "formula". And yes it is Heavier or as YOU call it "Moreheavieracation" (I took the liberty to correct your spelling).

Speaking of MTBE, Chevron El Segundo had to build a whole new plant to make MTBE so it could be ADDED to our gasoline to satisfy California's CARB Emission Standards. That Plant is now sitting idle after it was discovered MTBE was polluting our ground water. And Tim, who do you think got to pay for that...

And with that, I'm done... See ya
