Howdy,

You know, I see everyone talking about the TV cable and no one ever mentions using an AODE and an after market electronic controller.

It might be a little more money (well maybe a LOT more w00t ) to do this but most of the controllers out there are completely programmable with a laptop and only require you to install a throttle position sensor on the carb.

Has anyone else done this?

I have an E4OD bolted behind my 292 and I'll be using a Baumann Controller. http://www.becontrols.com/

Cheers,

Rick

I have the origional column shift in my 1963 Jaguar Mk2 that hooks up to the AOD. In 1983 Ford brought out the AOD  as a 4 speed but left only 3 forward gear positions so they saved money on shifters. It should not be hard to find an aftermarker kit for your column sfift. READ and UNDERSTAND the function of the TV (throttle valve) on the AOD. If it is not set up RIGHT you WILL FRY your AOD in less than 5 miles. Best source of CORRECT infomation on AOD is at click click racing forums. Pete

I used the Lokar cables and their gas pedal conversion. Works great. I adjusted until Park and Neutral were about right and let it go. The lower gears and OD shift themselves anyway. As long as you can select OD or Drive you should be fine. The pedal adapter gives a simple connection for the Lokar gas and AOD TV cables. Chuck in NH

Almost forgot to mention the gears; I swapped out the 3.00:1 gear set and installed a 3.70:1 gear set.  With my 14" 60 series rear tires, i hit about 2500 rpms in overdrive with torque convertor locked up all at 75 mph.  It's perfect in my opinion.  Gets a little better than 20 mpg with an engine not built for fuel economy...

Guys,

I used a Lokar column shift rod kit and the AOD sector kit when installing the AOD in my Merc.  Now my D and OD hover right around either the left half or the right half of the D on my column indicator.

Lokar also supplied the TV cable kit and throttle cable spring and bracket kit.  Their stuff is really nice.

I'll just throw this out there.

I have an AOD in my bird and figured out how to run the STOCK floor shift and make it all work.

Looks stock upstairs.

So I don't see why you couldn't figure out the way to mod the column shift also. You could also check with Lokar as they do make a column shifter setup that you could maybe get some parts from? Just don't expect the indicator to line up, of course!

You at least have room to run linkage and such as a tbird does not and is very tight in clearance all around.

You will LOVE the high end.

I actually need to get a new rear gearset as mine is a stock 3.31. Around town it wants to lope too much so I don't use od. On the Hiway 70-75 is 1800-1900rpm. Engine is barely workin! Much more versatile car now.
