help. i am new to this site. you all seem very knowledgable on these cars. i have a 1956 customline i've had for 20 years. i just bought a 3-2 manifold edel with 3 ford carbs and linkage for 40.00. i was told i could not run this setup with the stock carbs on the end, it needed special carbs. does anyone know if this is true? i would like to take this thing off the shelf and put it on my car. thanks for any help. veedub in crosby tx

You can run the carbs. What they are talking about is to remove the idle circuits from the outer 2 carbs. That is special carbs. What happens is without the idle circuits the outer 2 carbs wont open until the linkage kicks them in. If they have idle circuits then all 3 carbs run at the same time at idle. Wasting gas and not needed. So take the idle circuits out and you are good to go. You have the carbs with the intake right? Use those . If they need to be rebuilt just tell the rebuilder not to install the idle circuits in 2 of them. you will just have to adjust them when you install the and you are good to go. Hope this helps you.

you close the circuits exactly like Tom said. Its the only way to do it. Or you can have a carburetor rebuilder do it and they will charge you extra for it. If you think that maybe one day down the road you may use those carbs again then just tighten the screws but dont cut them off that way you can back them off and put in the power valve and you have a working carb.
