Also check the input shaft, it should pull right out. If it has 24 splines on both ends it is an early C-4. If it has 26 splines on each end is is a 1970-71 C-4. If it has 26 splines on the converter end and 24 on the Forward clutch end it is a 1972 up C-4, the one you want.
Mine is a 1973 C-4 with Shift kit, Kevlar bands, the large clutch pack and "C" code ( the largest you can get) front servo and 2600 stall converter,Will do. I had written all that down on a note already to check tomorrow. Hope the bell is a 5 bolt unit, since they are hard to find according to the article, and I wouldnt need it. Maybe a good ebay item. Dont know much of anything about automatics, so this is new. The torque converter had some minor surface rust on the outside. When I took it off its collar to input shaft looked like it had a fresh new weld to the circular assembly. Maybe it is a new TC?
