Greetings Anthony and welcome,  Don't know how your finances are but here goes--Complete ignition kit (Dist.,8mm plug wires, coil, wire looms--no MSD box)from Jegs-$510+ship plus $370 for MSD 6 AL control box = $900 bucks! Now seeing as how your 272c.i. is basically stock, you might go with a Petronix 2 ignition kit and Blaster 2 coil(changes your distributor points to electric ign--"no points") at $146 bucks + $45 for their 8mm Street wires==$191! You don't need a MSD Control Box at this time(maybe after some high performance-cam/kit,carb,headers,alum. manifold, etc.)parts! Take the $ saved and do some up grades--new exhaust system(ram horns, larger exhaust pipe/mufflers),better carb/manifold(4-barrel),freshen up the trans(filter/adjustment) etc. As they say--Speeds money-how fast do you want to go? Basic cruiser, bigger motor, stroker Y-Block,dual carbs, things to think about!  KID

Welcome to the site Anthony.  Be sure to put regular oil changes on your list.  If upon pulling a valve cover and a sludge buildup is evident, then increase the frequency of the oil changes in which to help clear that out.
