Ok

From what I can make out of your diagram, connect a light in series, that is, just cut into the line coming from the coil to the regulator.

You can just do that under the bonnet if you like and you will then see if the light comes on with the ignition on, engine not running and it should go out once you start the engine.

Once you have done that and it works, just run a wire from the ignition terminal of your ignition switch, to one side of a globe and then run the wire from the other side to the terminal on your alternator. Make sure that the lamp holder is not earthed or it will short out the regulator.

You will need a lamp fitting similar to that from a late model ford side indicator light, the type that have two wires running to them and a plastic body. For the light to work correctly as an alternator/generator charge indicator light, it must not be grounded at all. It earths through the alternator when it is not charging.

Hope this helps.

Is it possible for you to post photos of the alternator and regulator you have to determine what wire goes where.

The article I referred to previously should have given some idea as to what goes where but it depends on the particular setup as to what is what.

Sorry I can't help any more than that.

You will need to run a wire from your dash light to the alternator. It may still be in the harness in the area of the old regulator and should be yellow with a black band.

I found this article which should make things a bit easier to understand as the author goes to a lot of detail to explain everything.

Hopefully you can make sense of the article.

You will need to determine what make and model of alternator/regulator you have and adapt the diagram provided by this article to your application.

The oil light wiring, the wire should be white with red band, should still be in your wiring harness unless it has been completely removed, just install an oil pressure switch into the block behind the oil filter, plug on the wire and you will be on your way.

Good luck.

If you have a standard dash you should have those lights installed anyway.

The generator needs the indicator light working to correctly charge the battery as it is part of the circuit to energize the field coils.

It may well be that the holes in the dash were originally for those lights and someone removed them at some time in its past life.

It is very simple to hook a light up to a pressure switch for the oil even when you are using a gauge, just by installing a Tee fitting and screwing the pressure switch in with the oil fitting in the other hole. The indicator light is wired to the regulator on an alternator and generator. Checking a wiring diagram will give you its correct placement.

I would think that the wiring for both lights is still intact and may actually still be hooked up but the globes are missing or blown.

This is probably the result of someone playing around with the car in its past life and thinking they know better than the manufacturer by removing them.

It is always part of the fun (read that as headache) of having older vehicles, trying to repair what someone has done before you.
