I always washed engines with them running. Just have to be careful where the water and how much goes. Keep it away from carb ,make sure dizzy wires are secure, and then go for it.

I have used griots engine cleaner with tremendous results; much better than foamy engine bright, etc..  Use a soft brush, soak this stuff on there, and no need for a pressure washer....at least in my experience....

Hey  57--   I use Simple Green and soft brush.  Does not srain and will remove the dirt and grease build up.  Also will not ectch.  Cover Dist. and carb top and use hose with nozzle.  My 2 cents    God Bless   Eddie

If you wash with the engine running, keep the water away from the fan - otherwise you will have a big mess all over the car.

I'd be careful with the pressure washer around where the road draft tube connected in the valley cover, those are not exactly air tight, i can imagine water getting in the crankcase from there, especially with a pressure washer.
