Take a look at John Mummert's Y-Block site for a list of all the heads. I think the 272 parts are pretty much interchangeable. Its the smaller engines where things get sticky.

Aside from what you see on ebay - it seems to me its just as common to find loose heads with the rockers as not. So put out some feelers and check around for what you can find. I've seen two different outfits in New Jersey trying to sell y-block boat engines - so there must be some parts somewhere....

I think I remember hearing about someone in New Jersey, but I'd have to do a search to find that citation.

If that were mine, I'd look for a set of heads in your area and have those fixed up, then swap those over.

Best regards,

the smoke is blue, maybe I can get a citation for mosquito control?

ok, and these heads would fit on a stock 272?

and will the rockers, shafts and pushrods work with the different heads?

Seems to me you've been fixing this thing up so it runs properly (carb and ignition repairs)- what does the vacuum guage show? If you have some cooked umbrella seals and loose valve guides - the motor will suck all of the oil it can - right down beside the stems. Many motors run more oil to the rocker shafts on one side than the other too. Makes that bank smoke more.

Consider doing a valve job. I don't know which heads you have but....bucks down....get these gone though and some new rubber covers in there. Won't be too bad a job for a couple of guys to take the top end off and tote the parts to the machine shop. At least it won't be the full Monty.

Or......do some serious looking for a set of decent replacement heads - the 113's or G's would be nice if you can get a line on them. Spend the valve job money on what must be a better piece in the long run.

Help !!!

Does anyone know of a Y-Block rebuilder in NY? I am tired of friends calling my truck the crop duster, I have yet to do a compression test, but I did check the oil drains in the head they are clear, valves seem tight, The right side smokes moere than the left.

People roll up their windows when stuck at a light near me
