I make shock extenders for our left rear shocks on the race car. We make them in different lengths for an adjustment we do. I have done this for 10+ years and never broken a songle one. The best thing I have found to do this with is the long nuts that you use on leaf spring u-bolts. I turn a length of grade 8 threaded rod just a few turns into the longer than normal u-bolt nut and mig weld it in place. The hex lets you hold it as you tighten a jam nut against it on the original shock stud. Next, place the new stud end of the extension through the washers/mount as normal for the end connection. Old Y-Guy Nut Try Mr. Gasket #1290. They make two lenghts and many part stores still carry them. Hope this helps.... Bill

Paul: Shock extenders were used by us old drag racers back in the '70s to get more lift in the front end. They were made from a piece of 9/16 hex stock about 4 inches long. One end was drilled and tapped to thread on the shock, the other end was turned and threaded like the end of a shock so that the stock hardware would fit. They were cad plated. Ended up extending the length of the upper end of the shock a couple of inches. I don't know if speed shops can still get them or not. I don't see why they couldn't be made from round stock instead of hex.

I was one of the members that posted that information about the shocks.I installed them on mine and they work great.When you find a pair as a suggestion give them a light sanding and spray paint with gloss black.They look original.I did a search on Ebay which is where I got mine.I am waiting to hear back from a seller if he has a pair.Will let you know.Regards,Mark

Your right, I didn't notice they were listed for the FRONT of 4 wheel drive trucks... maybe that is why they are longer the original '55-56 Ford rears I am using Gas-a just shocks all around with shock extenders on the rear for tire removal. What are shock extenders, what do they look like and where can I get them. Paul- I made some. All I did is cut some pipe to the length I needed to add to the shock, welded the proper nut (shock size) to a heavy washer, welded the washer to the pipe (nut to inside) same setup on the other end. Screw extender to shock, bolt in place with bolt that corresponds to the other nut. works great...

I saw they were the same as Ford truck fronts but it also said for quad shocks. There are two different shocks with the quad shock option and I don't know which one is which. Called NAPA and they couldn't tell me or find Gabrial number. Maybe trouble is because of new, younger parts counter help.
