I tried with a thin screw driver to gently pry the Ford Customline emblims off with no sucess. I tried tapping behind them with a small rubber mallet and they did not budge. I would like to remove them so we can sand and paint the car the right way any body have any ideas? thanks

Timmy! On the inside of the fender there are "pins" on that emblem. The retainers are VERY thin pieces of metal that push over the pins and lock it it place. You need to bend those retainers so they will release and come off the pins. You can't pry the emblems off until you get those retainers off.Once off the emblems will fall off in your hand.Don't worry about damaging the retainers-they are available to put it back together.Unless someone has "glued" the emblems on to the fender!

I had trouble with the available repro barrel nuts (wouldn't hold tight), and gave up on getting the originals back to proper shape.
Ended up threading the emblem pins with a mini die (cautiously/shallow threads) and using nuts.
