Iam converting our 55 Courier to dual exhaust. It has a 272 with 3 speed overdrive. There appears to be very little room on the drivers side with all the shift linkage. Do the cars with manual trannys take the same manifolds as automatic tranny cars? Also looking on Ebay at differant maniflods there seem to be some that are longer where the exhaust pipe bolts on. Not sure that makes any sence. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.......Mark

There are a number of different manifolds. While the TBirds used the passenger right side, the left side was different.
There were "skinny" manifolds and "fat" ones. The earlier ones were the "skinny" ones, 1955 and maybe 56. I don't have casting numbers, hope some one else does.

It can be done. I have a 56 Ford station wagon with factory duels and overdrive. Its really not that close. I never had that problem before because I always installed Hurst Mystery shifters before I installed dual exhaust. I bought another 56 Ford last week up in Oregon with a 272 with OD. I am going to take the manifold off of the SW because I know it will work. I am still debating about putting a Hurst shifter in it. All I have seen is pictures of the car. I am waiting for Express Auto to deliver it. If you don't have a casting number sooner, I will post it when I get the manifold off.

'55 and '56s with factory duals did not have floor shifters. Automatics and standards used the same exhaust manifolds, so factory stuff will fit.
