If it is the door check arm you are referring to you can put them back into place.

The flat bar has to be inserted from inside the door. You will have to take the the door panel off. Watch the orientation of the bar the hook on the end of the bar would be toward yourself. You may have to use a screwdriver to pry on the spring from the slot on the outside the door to assist in the passing through of the check arm as the spring is quite strong.

The rivet that goes to the door post is replaced by a rivet with a c-clip to hold it in position so does not pop out, the originals were peen riveted. Concours Parts sell them as part number B5A-23505-R

If you are talking about the door check lever that is the lever that keeps the door from over extending. I'm not sure they are supposed to come out. It was probably held by buck rivets. I would drill the rivets out, take the inside door panel out, put a bucking bar in from the inside and buck it from the outside. But you probably don't have riveting equipment. You could also drill the hole out to 17/16, weld a 1/4" nut to the mechanism, drill a hole in the door and tightening it using thread locker. It has to withstand quite a bit of strain so something like a pop rivet wouldn't hold it. A structural rivet such as a blind Huck or Monobolt would hold it, but that takes special equipment also.

My car is a 2 door customline and there is a piece in between the 2 hinges i guess it keeps the door from opening too far.

Timmy.  I looked at the door on my ’55 Fairlane and couldn’t see the piece in which you refer.  I’m looking at a two door sedan so it may be different than your four door?  Are you looking at the hinges for the rear doors?

I put the doors back on my 1955 customline and the center piece that is between the 2 hinges cam out of the door. I was wondering how to get them back in the dor properly. I am going to fasten them to the body with a small screw and a lock nut because I ground the rivot off when i took the doors off. I am refering to the piece that is hooked to the body and a rivot goes through it and the other end hooks some how inside the door.
