I just brought home my new rebuild - went in as a 73000 mile 272 - came back a stock build 292. I plan on adding a bigger carb and new intake - from a single exhaust to dual 2 1/4 in pipes. And some kind of good distributor - as you guys might recommend. The automatic  transmission has been good for the driving I have had - no slack or slips. But is there an upgrade you would recommend - for this driver?

The original transmission in good shape will have no trouble handling your new rebuild.

If you want to upgrade go with a C4. You will have to do some small cutting to get it to fit but its negligible. Keep the one in it now till it dies then upgrade. Its lasted 50+ years so "if it ain't broke dont fix it".  Search this site for info about a trans swap.

I own a small trucking company and have been out since I posted the question. I'm just tonight going thru the replies.

What distributor would you recommend for this animal? I just ordered a 4core radiator from Cal - and will be adding an A/C unit from Concours parts. Concours has an aluminum intake that will go under this carb. Otherwise I will be stock - there is no power steering on the car and I'm fine with that. We will be putting an electric fan on the radiator - that may save 5hp or so.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your response to my question about the old tranny. I will continue to run the original - and as you suggest  - will up grade when it decides to retire.

I want this car to be reliable - and I am going to use it as a company car. We are a smal trucking company here in Texas - and it will be seen here in the Dallas area.

I frequently log on to this site to see the responses you and others post to other tech questions. I know this is a labor of love for most of you - and you know your stuff - about these cars.

If you have been reading this forum, you have seen many discussions about distributors.  You didn't say what year your car is, or if it's a Bird.  In a Bird the tach drive becomes an issue, if your car is a '57 or later, the original distributor is workable.
