That tranny appears to be full synchro. Didn't know they were ever used behind Y-Blocks. Just found out recently that New Process full synchro 4speeds were an option on 64 trucks.
If it's any comfort I think all the hype over C1AE and C2AE blocks is just that. I'll take an EDB or B9AE any day. I've seen 272's bored to 292 that were thicker than a standard bore 292 C2AE.
I.M.O.: Take any old Y-Block and drill/taps the mains to accept ARP bolts or studs, line hone it and don't worry about it. The only blocks I avoid are EBU for obvious reasons and ECZ-C, can't install the cam in most of them. I have found that if you take the time to really clean the cam bearing bores it helps a lot.
Your 272 main caps are stouter than any of ours anyway.
All Y-Blocks for sale over here are 312's and they all came out of T-Birds.
