I had a C2AE 292 truck bored too a 3.80 312 size and had the heavy webbs I bought from gord in Canada. But after checking wall thickness from sonic testing there was no way the engine could be bored anymore with safty in mind because of the thinner walls this block had. I've had MUCH BETTER LUCK with 312 blocks being able to bore one hundred thousands + because of there thicker walls. It pays to sonic check a block when boring for performance. The C2AE block bored too 3.80 only had .070s left in one of the cylinders which is ok but I wouldn't recommend going anyfurther than that.

That tranny appears to be full synchro. Didn't know they were ever used behind Y-Blocks. Just found out recently that New Process full synchro 4speeds were an option on 64 trucks.

If it's any comfort I think all the hype over C1AE and C2AE blocks is just that. I'll take an EDB or B9AE any day. I've seen 272's bored to 292 that were thicker than a standard bore 292 C2AE.

I.M.O.: Take any old Y-Block and drill/taps the mains to accept ARP bolts or studs, line hone it and don't worry about it. The only blocks I avoid are EBU for obvious reasons and ECZ-C, can't install the cam in most of them. I have found that if you take the time to really clean the cam bearing bores it helps a lot.

 Your 272 main caps are stouter than any of ours anyway.

All Y-Blocks for sale over here are 312's and they all came out of T-Birds.

Lon, yes i think the gearbox is as you say! i know guy who has similar one in 55 f100, but has the shift levers on top of cast g,box lid and has flange on output end. Yes you have described the 292/312 situation here spot on,  regards bill.

Is that box from a Medium Duty F100 ???? My gearbox in my  '58 F100 is a H/D 4 speed ( Super low 1st gear). Looks like it came out of a 4 ton truck .Everyone in Australia has a "292" or "312 "  y-block . It doesn't seem to matter that they ( 312 )were never sold here .They also have "Thunderbird " heads ?????? It doesn't seem to matter about the cast # ?????.EVERYONE has Thunderbird heads . I gave up a long time ago trying to tell them about the cast # .

Paul, no, i agree for everyday use the old bored out 272 has allways been the standard and i swear by them, but with all the hype and excitement on our forum about the performance y block rebuilds, using the HD parts you have there with the C2 type blocks,rods,etc, the average guy here wants them, but reality is; bored 272 will do the job on the street. I was offered a joblot of C1, C2, B9A engines, 272, 292, 312 ? take what you get!! and most turned out pretty well machine shop discards, with big bores , but there were some good ones there also, this engine missed the original boat and is EDB-E 292 with ECG-C Heads, B intake and late dizzy, so should be good depending on dismantle check, it came with truck bellhousing and strange little 3 speed toploader box. Bill: Is there a problem with bored out 272s? It would seem more cost effective than paying shipping from the U.S.A to Oz on a horrible piece like the one pictured..Yes, no?

Lon, i had brought a joblot of take what you get 292/312 engines 2 years back and this was straggler getting here. yes, real 292.s here are real scarce, i,d love a dollar for every " i,ve got a 292 engine" statement i,ve heard, that were bored out local 272. And as you know the strong 292 blocks in the US are on the most wanted list. Hope the A,s nearly back on the road! regards bill.
