I have been enjoying reading this site and this is my first post. I have a 58 Ranchero w/292 & 4-spd. I have rebuilt the Holley 2bbl, but had to add a gasket to the fuel pump diaphragm cover assy. W/out this gasket, fuel poured out the assy. Is this a a common issue?

Welcome to the site. Smile  Are you talking about the fuel pump or the accelerator pump diaphragm?  If it is the accelerator pump just replace the diaphragm and it should be good, unless the bowl is gouged or scratched on the edge.

It is the accelerator pump. I had to reuse an old gasket between the diaphragm and the cover. It stopped leaking but the gasket was not in the carb kit.

I bought the car w/the 4-spd already installed. It has an early Mustang style shifter w/the lockout handle. I have not gone underneath it to see which trans is there.  I am a convert from another make, so my knowledge of Fords is limited.
