You should be able to go to a 1 piece driveshaft. You will want to use a C4 with dipstick in case. Any year will work but best to avoid early "Green Dot" type, 64-66. These have P-R-N-D2-D1 pattern. Dipstick in pan C4's present a bunch of problems, require custom torque converter.

Decide what type of shifter you want to use, floor or column. The shift lever in the trans is different depending on the type of shifter.

If going with floor shift, early Mustang or Pinto shifters work well. Of course you can spend the $$ for aftermarket shifter if you want.

Correct column shift parts will be hard to find for 62 pick-up and will have P-R-N-D-L pattern if you find one.

Although not necessary you can install a crossmember under the tail shaft.

Absolutely install a good quality cooler.
