Thanks, Steve- Yeah, the photo clears it up in my mind. I don't want to pull everything back down, unless it's an absolute must. I think I'll just install the bracket to the shroud and let it go at that. (It has the captive nut piece still attached to it) If I HAVE to take it apart for something else, I'll deal with it then- If not, whoever owns it after I'm gone can have the honor ... /Duck

Duck - Did you end up hunting down an aluminum rad for your toy? The photos of the one that's commonly listed on ebay doesn't show the shroud bracket.

If its running clear and not prone to getting into "fan territory" you ought to be OK. But ....if you still have the brass rad - it is possible to lay it all out on the floor, attach the shroud pieces, and determine the location of the new bracket in short order. The guys at the radiator shop intalled mine in minutes.

As usual I had to crawl under there and look to see that I forgot a part...

I wouldn't worry about it. But like some one said, the brackets are available so you can solder it to your radiator.



If you take the radiator out, I recommend that you get the plastic replacement shroud which is a true shroud. It should provide better cooling. Beside attaching to the upper piece, you would have to drill holes on each side at the bottom into the frame of the radiator to fasten the bottom. I put one on my TBird.

Wonderful- My replacement radiator doesn't have any provision to mate to the original bracket I have. What would be the downside to lettin' it ride without the bracket? The shroud doesn't seem overly weighty and it doesn't contact the radiator anywhere it shouldn't- ??? *EDIT* Eddy- I can't see anyway to do that w/ the metal shroud...

Hey Duck;;  Is your bottom shroud plastic???   Mine is--  I carefully drilled thru the schoud in each bottom corner then a 1/8 drill into the side rad. frame.  Two sheet metal screws holds fine.   God Bless  Eddie

Its an "L" shaped piece soldered onto the lower tank (dead center/engine side/short leg down) - and on mine - had a captured nut, opening facing downward. Because the threads were completely rusted away - I bought another piece from NPD and had my radiator repair guy install it in place of the bent original. Beforehand I did a little "modification" and and replaced the common steel nut with stainless square nut.

It attaches to a bracket on the bottom of the radiator on my 55.

Fellas- Can anyone tell me what the bracket on the lower half of a T-bird's fan shroud attaches to (if anything) ? I haven't a clue -Thanks- /Duck
