I think the best sound for a y-block is 2 1/2" pipes with Glasspack mufflers, but I'm old school hot rod so that sound is great to me.

Ever since Y-blocks came out, I have thought glass packs were engineered with y-blocks in mind. Straight pipes will rattle the show windows, but so will any other engine.

The only engines that sound good with straight pipes are full blown race engines.Far and away the best sounding engines ever are Y-Blocks with stock pipes and glasspack mufflers.

I would try either Brockmans, or Porter Glasspacks, and probably 2 1/4" or maybe bigger depending on your motor. The shorter the glasspack the louder, same with other mufflers as well. A equalizer or balance tube between the two side will help if its too loud.

I run 3" pipe into 3" turbos (cheep Summit ones) and then turn downs.  I like the sound and I get nothing but compliments.  No grannys in my neighborhood although it really isn't very loud. Smile

If it is a classic sound you look for try Smitty's mufflers. These mufflers will give your car the old school sound.
