Is there a way to determine the impact/change to ratio if an input shaft with 17 teeth was used instead of one with 19 teeth where it meshes with a 29 tooth cluster gear? Is that an increase in ratio or a decrease, and how might it affect performance in terms of energy transmission from motor to axle?

Is there a recognized guru of these warner/ford transmissions as there is for Toploaders?

I really want to use my `57 Tbird's T-85/T-89 with OD behind a 223 I-6 in my `55 F100 still using the truck bellhousing. I'm even considering grafting the two input shafts together to get both the lenght/diameter and tooth count needed.

Anybody know a shop that could make a custom input shaft?

There has got to be a way even if it takes the last penny I might eventually have.

The input shaft has to be matched with the cluster gear. Otherwise they won't mesh. Warner had a bunch of combinations, but everything has to match. If you install a different input shaft, you need a different cluster gear to go with it and probably a different low/reverse sliding gear. If your T85/89 doesn't have a deep enough first gear for you, I would recommend a T86 that was born behind a 6 cylinder.
