I have found 6 y-blocks that are old wind machines used to keep frost off in orange groves (35 ft. in air) I am too old and scared to climb up for closer look to check #'s. All have ram's horn exhaust and maybe propane. Could anyone please help with identifying what year and the cubic in. did ram's horn 1st appear? Thank you, Charlie, central fl.

We have a lot of wind machines in our area, found a few "pods" with Ys in them all Linclon/Truck Ys with ram horns. Get some young kid to shimmy up there and check the bolt pattern on the exhaust. Be careful!

1957 was first year for the y-block ram horns. If its a lincoln based could be earlier.

Tim and 4speed, thank you very much for your reply. Tim, from the ground the valve covers appear to have the ridges by the mounting bolts like the pic of the complete motor that you and your friend found. Aussie Bill, it would probably be cheaper than an analyist. Have a arranged for a brave person (who knows how to use a camera) to climb up and take pic's tomorrow. Thank you, Charlie

ZZZZZZZZZZZZ.You know it would probably sound more like a V16 Y since most of these "Pods" have two back to back blowing opposite directions at about 2500rpm. That would be a nice sound

aussiebill (12/14/2009) Tim, Wow! 2 engines up on a pole, i,ve never heard of them, what exactly do they do? bill.On cold nights they push the warmer air down on the citrus trees to keep them from freezing. It works as long as there is not too much of a temp. drop, after it hits 20* F for a few hours you are just wasting money.
