From my Ford parts book, '49-'59, here's the info:

M-292 engine, 200 or 202 HP.  6-'56.  R-Assembly plant, San Jose.  V-body style, 2 dr. Victoria.  1002077, consecutive number.  Ford started each year at 100,000, so your car was the 2077th car assembled for '56.  Very early!  Possibly built on the first day of production.

64C-Fairlane Victoria.  ME-Goldenglow yellow bottom, Colonial white above.  AD-White vinyl and black cloth interior.  15J-Sept 15 (I told you it was a very early car), 664-the 664th car scheduled at that plant that day.

There is one on the ford truck enthusiasts website. I think it only works for trucks but might be worth a try.

Hello Moonshadow  ....I wiil give the decode a try........M=200 hp v8.............6=1956..R= assembly plant..San Jose ......V= body style ............i might not be right ..but  i believe ...10= oct...20=day  ...........77= unit schelded for production ...............................Some where i have a decoder   ...now if only i could remember where.....Sam

I know there is a Vin decoder for my 56 out there but can't seem to find it. VIN is M6RV102077 (On the registration) I havn't checked the data plate. Can anyone send me the link for decode or do it? Chuck
