Hi Mark, To answer one of your questions, the Sandersons are shorties.  They look great, I've seen a couple sets in person.  There was a new set on eBay recently (since sold), I tried to bring up the listing and photos but couldn't find it.  I think the Sanderson part number is FTB-1.  Good luck, Nick Brann - K.C., MO

Are the Sanderson's shorty or long tube? I live in the Bay Area and have been to their shop to get a set of 391's for my 65 Galaxie FE. There were some troubles but I made them fit. What have you done to make the spark plug boots/wires safe from burning on the headers? Also, I was planning on using a mini-high torque starter. Do you need to loosen/remove the header to change out the starter? BTW, I was digging through the archives here and found the SBchiverlay block hugger modification for a Y block. Anyone know if that guy did the drivers side?

Thanks,

Sandersons ARE available by phone And NOT listed. Better than Reds and better than stock.

But IMHO FPT/Mummert headers are the way to go. tight but manageable fit around some spark plugs. More dough, but better performance.

I modified the steady rest attachment here http://birddropnz.blogspot.com/

I have a set of headers I bought from Mummert I believe they are made by Ford Power on a 1955 Tbird with a standard transmission. The only problem I seen is that the grease fitting on top of the idler arm is close to the header on the passenger side so I have replaced the fitting with a shorter and smaller fitting. They exit in the stock location in front of the mufflers. They look as good as the picture on his site and perform well for me.

I have looked at the FPA and Mummert's headers for the 57 Tbird. Sanderson doesn't list them any longer. Are there road clearance problems with the long tube headers? Do you have to remount the steering linkage lower to fit? Spark plug boot problems? I have a stock 312 Fordo, power steering and brakes. Reds Headers seem to be a bit "funky". I plan to lower the front suspension two or so inches.

Thanks,
