There are at least two different depth truck pans with the HD trucks having a deeper rear sump and holding at least another quart of oil.  Each one has its own oil pickup so make sure you get the pickup that goes with the particular pan you are using.

Alan, a couple guys say that they have seen trucks with car pans, I have not and I think it would be tight clearance with the axle. I don't know why you would want to use a car pan as truck pans are cheap and plentiful.

Some truck pans have a baffle and some don't.

A car dipstick can be shortened and used with a truck pan in the car location. It just doesn't allow as much range between full and fill.

Don't forget that you need to change the dipstick also. All the 292 blocks have 2 locations for the dipstick depending on whether the application is for a car or truck. You will need to get the correct dip stick tube and plug the hole you are not using.

There was also a T Bird pan. The main difference that I have seen with car pans is in the internal baffles. Some of the truck pans were almost flat on the bottom while others had a rounded bottom like a bath tub.

i think the main difference was the the cars were front sump and the trucks were rear sump to clear the axles. thats about all i know though and i might be wrong.

I know there are car and truck oil pans. Did they also have different variations of each of these? Also did the car and truck use the same amount of oil?
