Dennis,

John explained it to me, or rather he tried. You're right about the understanding part, John sees things in his head that I can't understand from a blueprint and text book.  What he described should help. Mileage is inversely proportional to the amount of pressure applied by your right foot.

Thanks John, the article came today. Boy that would have been tough to explain to me without the pictures. I've already removed the power valves and replaced them with plugs on the end carbs. I guess I should look into a regulator too. My last tank of gas was less than 10 mpg,but it's hard not to step on the throttle.

I should have mentioned it's the 94/AA-1 type carb, not the 97. It's a nice virus though isn't it?

Frank, I want a rematch. I ran the 1/8 mile last year and it was 7/10 of a second quicker in the eight with all three carbs. But with only 1 practice at Columbus, I didn't want to try the three carbs. This darn sport wants to make you go faster.

I'll have to look at some of my spare carbs to see if I can see something.

Dennis:

We used to take the boost venturi out and replace one of the round gaskets with the center hole with a blank gasket.  The fuel passage somehow crosses over there, but I can't picture it in my mind.  Main fuel also flows from the venturi, I think, so that passage can't be blocked.  This was covered in an old Hot Rod magazine a long time ago.  The vacuum passage to the power valve was also plugged in the end carbs.

Dennis,

It's been so long since I looked at a 97 I honestly can't remember how the idle cicuit works. It may dribble some fuel thru even with the idle screws off. If it does, find the slots in the bores and epoxy them shut. Idle fuel will be drawn in BELOW the butterflies in a hole or transition slot. You don't need to practice your lights, it's more fun when you redlight!!

Thanks Frank, I'm ok there. I just didn't know if there were any passages that needed blocked off. It idles ok. I thought I would get out to one of these test and tunes, but she has me repainting the bathroom. O well.

Dennis,

Make sure the throttle blades are closed so you don't pull air through. If you hold the carb up to a light and look through, you can tell if it's closed.
